Poem 42 of 43

Stand Back

by Nathan Jellerson

A glowing jar, gentle luminous turtle, and weathered box beside a celestial ocean beneath a red-to-gold sky

Luminous thoughts as the past and tomorrow become one.

Numbers keep falling, no heart greater than the sun.

Stand back as the spirit comes with sorrow in hand.

Wind swiftly travels down my empty land.

What has become of our devotion

when dreams were as big as the ocean?

A gear turning from our thoughts, grinding upon the door.

Stand back and hold your box along yesterday’s shore.

This commotion,

an equation for the story in motion,

the same as before, a song sung by the ripples of the sea,

collecting love in a jar, bound by the thought to become free.

Clairvoyance has come knocking.

Before we knew how to grow, doubts from hope are blocking.

Stand back as the sun covers the sky.

Red turns to yellow to inspire the why.

If I could drift here for a singular moment in time,

I’d relapse into your arms, dearest glow turtle.

I’ll paint you mine.

Stories now to bind your heart to my weeping pen.

For now, I’ll rest; night is upon us, sounds and daughters of men.
