Poem 18 of 35

Service Above Ash

Like man, almost—

a place where time chimed with me.

Mind over body.

See and hear the chains of the body still.

Wind and water,

a symphony of divine light grown chill.

Thoughts and pillars were built

by the thrones of men.

A fire grew steady.

A spark, a forge,

left alone to wonder when.

Craft the word;

a dusty road spins ahead.

Time coils the sun

to shine beyond the garden bed.

Vines awake.

Lunar trees no longer quake.

Bearstar and Glowturtle

are split with a dream.

Rabbits of shadow

multiply doubts in life's stream.

Clouds dance with thoughts

that hide in a shaft.

Desires, proud for some;

my sorrows carried on a raft.

Rivers continue to flow.

Words from the crow—

they too already know.

Time no longer glows;

it shines bright

against the rust of the world,

in a heart that had no glow.

Think of a story.

The winds no longer sing

their poem and allegory.

The body will clash.

The mind will mend through fire.

Service above ash.
